As with other public holidays in Poland, Christmas Eve will now be work free across the board meaning businesses will be closed on this day including supermarkets, shops and hospitality outlets.
As of 2025, 24 December will be a public holiday in Poland meaning those living in the country will not have to go to work on that day.
When was the amendment to the law made?
On 27 November 2024, the Sejm (the Lower Chamber of Parliament) adopted an amendment to the act about days off work. The change will be implemented in 2025.
What does this mean for businesses?
As with other public holidays in Poland, Christmas Eve will now be work free across the board meaning businesses will be closed on this day including supermarkets, shops and hospitality outlets. In exchange for the extra day off, the Sejm will increase commercial Sundays in December 2025. Commercial businesses will now be allowed to operate on the following Sundays in 2025:
