“We see the enormous growth potential of Health & Benefits in our region, and we aim to strengthen our value proposition in that area. ” – interview with Ewelina Jaworska-Bien, our new Health & Benefits Group Practice Leader.

Could you tell us a bit more about your new position at GrECo? What will be the main area of your focus?

Jaworska-Bien: I will join GrECo Specialty as a Health & Benefits Group Practice Leader. This means that I will be responsible for the development of the health & benefits in all 18 countries we are operating in. We see the enormous growth potential of Health & Benefits in our region, and we aim to strengthen our value proposition in that area. We see a rapid demand from the clients in this respect and a high need for support with all types of benefits, preferably through one partner. Brokers nowadays must look beyond just insurance coverage, become not only a broker but also act as risk managers and consultants, and provide benchmarks and data analytics. We will focus on extending of our proposal with additional products, depending on the country specifics. Last but not least, we will pay a lot of attention to the IT solutions, which will reduce the volume of admin work for our clients.

What made you choose to become a part of the GrECo in the first place?

Jaworska-Bien: Foremost GrECo is a great place to work, people at GrECo are not only best-in-class professionals but also very kind, emphatic and extremely helpful. What I love about GrECo is the organization’s culture, its focus on future development and growth and collaboration but also simply on helping each other, helping clients to better protect themselves, helping employers to offer better benefits packages, and helping employees when they need the support the most. I am happy that I can be part of such a great team.

GrECo as an employer, offers the exceptional opportunity of working with people from all over the world. As I already mentioned we are present in Central and Eastern Europe, however, we partner with 200+ multinational brokers from many different countries. It is an extremely exciting environment to work in.

Which challenges do you expect in your new role?

Jaworska-Bien: The region we are operating in consists of multiple countries, with different cultures, languages, business practices and regulations regarding insurance and employee benefits. Navigating through regulations, ensuring compliance and at the same time tailoring the benefits to meet the needs of employees across many countries requires a nuanced approach and local knowledge.

Demographic shifts, such as the ageing population, have an impact on the types of benefits that employees value. Companies will need to find a way to adapt their offering to address the different needs of different workforce generations. I am grateful that I am surrounded by a group of health and benefits professionals who are keen to build the best possible solutions for our clients.

What do you like about the insurance and risk management industry, and what keeps you motivated?

Jaworska-Bien: The same as many people in the insurance industry, I started my career in insurance by accident. Unexpectedly I found out, how interesting this industry is, what potential it offers for personal development and what value it brings to the clients. I like helping people. I like it when my work has a positive and real impact on other’s lives, and is important and useful to someone else. Well-designed benefits can improve individual life being, sometimes it will be as simple as faster access to medical care, benefits paid in case of diagnosis of critical illness, mental health support or financial wellbeing. This is what motivates me to do my work better every day and to look for new solutions which will address the needs of my clients and their employees.

Could you tell us a bit more about yourself outside of work? How do you like to spend your free time?

Jaworska-Bien: I am a mom of two wonderful and very energetic kids, who keep me motivated and busy outside my office hours. Spending time with my friends and family, and watching how my children grow is very important to me. In the summer, we spend a lot of time close to nature, by the lake, sea or gardening in our little summer place. In the rest of the year, I really enjoy all types of art and handicrafts – mosaic art, ceramic workshops, painting and most recently jewellery making. I also like to start and finish my work week with sports activities to clear my head and keep my body healthy.
