As part of its healthcare reforms, Ukraine is introducing several changes to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services for those with disabilities. These changes include the implementation of electronic systems, the involvement of multidisciplinary teams, and improved patient journeys.
Electronic systems and data management
Healthcare is shifting from paper-based to electronic systems. All documents, including cases, referrals, protocols, and decisions, will now be in electronic form. This transition aims to improve efficiency and accessibility, making it easier for healthcare providers to manage disabled patients’ information.
Multidisciplinary teams
The reform also involves the formation of multidisciplinary teams to assess patients with disabilities. These teams consist of practitioners from various specialities, ensuring that all relevant aspects of a case are considered. The team composition is selected randomly for each case, based on the case profile, to provide a comprehensive assessment.
Improved patient journey
The patient journey has been streamlined to provide better support and convenience. Patients with disabilities can now undergo examinations under the Medical Guarantee Programme at any convenient location, including hospitals, where the expert team is located. This initiative seeks to alleviate the burden on patients while ensuring they receive prompt and suitable treatment.
Patient-centred care
These reforms aim to provide more efficient, comprehensive, and patient-centred care for those with disabilities. The ultimate goal is to ensure they receive timely and appropriate healthcare support.
