As of 1 April 1 2025, Bulgaria has implemented several significant legislative changes that impact social security, tax law, and healthcare.
Social Security
The minimum social insurance income for self-employed individuals has increased to BGN 1,077, while the maximum social insurance income has risen to BGN 4,130. Additionally, starting from 1 July 2025, the minimum pension amount will be increased to BGN 630.50.
National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Budget
The Bulgarian Parliament has approved the final budget of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for 2025, which is set at BGN 9.474 billion in revenues and transfers. A significant provision in this budget is that the NHIF will cover the cost of prescribed medicines for home treatment of acute infectious diseases, including antibacterial drugs, for children up to 7 years of age. This regulation will come into force on 1 July 2025.
